Mother's Day Tea & Art Show
Sunday May 13th, 2018 11:00AM - 3:00 PM
It's time to take mom out on the town (er, village)! Whose mom? Your mom! My mom! Your baby's mom! The mom next door! Your mom's mom! One thing I know for sure, is that ALL mom's deserve some extra love! How does anyone express their love for a mom? From a grown child’s perspective, it’s impossible. From a mom’s perspective, it’s pretty easy; A smile, a hug, a kiss good night, a game of bird bingo, quality time together. They may not ask for anything, but often deserve the world.
Soup and Such in Hazlet will be serving up a delicious brunch, at their Cafe, from 11 - 2 on Mother's Day! You really ought to put that on your calendar, they WILL NOT disappoint! THEN come and join us while you are in town and take in some fine art. Have a coffee, or a mimosa. Sit down and enjoy each other's company. Have a visit. Bring the kids, there is plenty of space to play! Or, leave them home with dad and bring your mom!
ADMISSION IS FREE
Our bar will be open as well as various non-alcoholic drinks!
Acrylics on Canvas
Stefani de Nysschen
Stefani is inspired by the beauty she sees in the world around her, her work allows her to connect her audience with wonder, inviting the viewer to feel the relationship she has with God. Although she dabbles in many fields of creativity, the canvas will always have her heart.
Raised in Cabri, Saskatchewan and recently returned to her home province after pursuing education in Alberta, Stefani has a Bachelor of Applied Arts from Medicine Hat College. She paints in her quaint little home that she shares with her husband in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
The Concert Experience- Graphic Design
Kealy Schulze
With a love of learning, Kealy often finds herself outside of her comfort zone. Using many new techniques and styles of art, Kealy is able to evoke emotion in her audience. She notices the sensuality, the anticipation and intent in a gesture, a face. And that is precisely what she brings to her work.
Kealy was raised in Hazlet, Sk and is recently home for the summer from the College of Medicine Hat, where she is studying Applied Arts. She will spend the summer creating her work nestled in the yard where she began to develop her artistic sensibilities as a child.
On A Windswept Hill- Water Color
Gena LaCoste
Gena LaCoste is a watercolour and oil painter, living in Medicine Hat Alberta, and she creates paintings filled with life and light, celebrating the living lifestyle of the Canadian west. Take in her paintings, let her show you how she sees and interprets the new and vibrant, beautiful and diverse life that has evolved here on the Canadian prairies over the past 2 centuries.
Katelyn Toney
As a visual story-teller, Katelyn works hard to develop photographs that speak to the beauty that exists in the ordinary moments of everyday life. She does not merely capture people with her lens; rather, with careful, intimate observations, she reveals those moments at the heart of humanity. Katelyn is inspired by the strength and determination of the women of the prairies.
Raised in SW Saskatchewan, and having put down roots to raise her own family on a ranch near Tompkins, Saskatchewan, Katelyn draws from real life to bring her perspective to her photographs.
Babbling blonde mama
Brooke Morstad is a fiber artist currently living and working in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. Raised in Frontier, she attended Great Plains College where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. During her time at home with her littles, she was inspired by the revival of macrame (knot-based textile construction) and decided to learn the art of knotting. People have fallen in love with her fiber based creations.
Twisted hinge
Karla Sletten & Sara McEacheran & Charlotte Anderson
Twisted Hinge was sparked by a desire to create unique industrial chic furniture and art pieces. Friends, Sara, Charlotte and Karla, salvaging old barns and combining reclaimed barn wood and metal in ways that are rustic and refined. Inspired by a simpler time when farmhouses were the way of life and barns were made to stand the test of time, their naturally simple art is defined by the history behind the wood. They use warm oaks, grey pines or perfectly textured fir to tell the stories of old, while giving you art to bare witness to your stories of the future.
All three ladies live, farm alongside their husbands and raise their children in the Hazlet, Sk area.
Myrtle Olsen
Myrtle Olsen (1932-2016) was best known for quilting, growing breathtaking gardens, and her acrylic paintings inspired by the beauty of nature around her. “She had a true love for beauty and had an effortless way of adding a touch of it to everything in her life,“ says her granddaughter. “If she wasn’t painting eye catching scenery, she was often sewing sequins or appliqué birds and flowers on to everything.” With its emphasis on nature, her art-work could best be described as whimsical and relatable. While her breakthrough work dates from the 1970s, in her later years she chose to spend more time enjoying nature in person rather than painting it.
Two Worlds Collide
POPPY PARSONS
Poppy’s love of nature and flowers was introduced by her Meem and Pa and has continued with the time spent in the pastures and hills of her family’s farm. Much of her inspiration for her floral art comes from her time spent checking cows, fixing fence, and helping on the farm. Poppy hopes to showcase her two loves, florals and farmlife in her latest series of work.
Poppy Parsons grew up right here in Hazlet- right across the back alley and spent much of her childhood playing in Meem’s garden right across from The Bethany. Poppy’s professional florist & floral art career started when she achieved her Certified Floral Design (CFD) designation after testing with the American Institute of Floral Design (AIFD) in Miami in June of 2012. That same year she also became a member of the Canadian Professional Floral Design Association and of NeoFlora after designing in Vancouver. Poppy passed her Professional Floral Design Evaluation at the AIFD Symposium in Las Vegas July 2013 and was inducted into this prestigious association July 2014 in Chicago. In October of 2014 Poppy was chosen out of over 150 applicants to be 1 of 5 floral designers to compete for the Canadian Florist Magazine “Inspired Design” contest and walked away with the title “Inspired Designer LIVE 2014”. Spring 2015 she passed the written exam for the Canadian Academy of Floral Art (CAFA) & design test later that summer and was inducted into CAFA April 2016.
